Orlando: The Queer Element
Orlando: The Queer Element is an immersive performance that explores our understanding of sex and gender from a scientific as well as cultural and historical perspective and will be performed to an audience of sixth form and university students as well as the general public alongside discussion and a screening of the film.
Directed by Andy Dawson, Artistic Director of Clay & Diamonds, time travelling audiences will step inside Orlando’s story as it unfurls across history to explore what it means when we call ourselves woman, man and those spaces in between.
Interviews will take place in London on 8th March with rehearsals and performance in week of 20th March (4 days). Assistant Director will support the Director remotely in lead up to rehearsals (1 day) with the performance on the day of 24th March totalling 1 week at Equity minimum rate of £444 per week.
Should we gain funding for this role in the full production (rehearsing 15th May-3rd June), the successful candidate here will be offered that 5 week position

Clay & Diamonds
As educators & theatre makers, we seek to ask questions & evoke curiosity in our partners & audiences. Our work allows us to explore humanity & strengthen our communality through open and frank collaborations between artists & scientists.
Drawing together the artistic & scientific method offers a rich opportunity that comes out of their contrast & compatibility. While one looks for questions & the other for answers, both science & art look to examine & express nature with practitioners in each thriving off creativity & precision. At Clay & Diamonds, we bring together artists, scientists & audiences to explore the whole picture. Through unusual collaborations, we create space for full & open discussion around the nature of life. This defines the work that we make.
